Match Report South Perth D5 vs Warnbro Strikers

As you weren’t there Dayle

Yesterday at Challenger Fortress:

SPU vs. Warnbro - Reserves

There was a buzz of excitement during the Ressies game, with second place locked it was only the matter of extending the undefeated streak to 10 home games and 8 games in a row. SPU started of the better side going 1-0 up with a rare headed goal from 1st Assistant coach Oli and then 2 – 0 up through Paddy. SPU turned up the heat but squandered a few chances until a penalty was given for a foul on the Warnbro forward 2 – 1. SPU responded straight away with Paddy slotting home his second. At 3-1 SPU took their foot off the gas and conceded a second in sloppy fashion. Paddy sealed his Hat trick with SPU’s fourth to go in at the break 4 – 2.
HT 4-2

Surprise, surprise Warnbro got a man sent off, despite having 10 men they managed to get a scrappy third goal, Dougie scored with a neat finish to make it 5-3 and then a penalty was awarded to SPU, Hily made his trade mark claim and the Gaffer said “not today Hilly!” Up stepped birthday boy Wes Makins however his kick rattled the cross bar. Lloyd came close with a long ranger that flashed wide before Wes Makins sealed it with the sixth. There was chance to make it 7 late but Jamie’s header hit the bar.
Final score 6-3

SPU vs. Warnbro – 1st team

With SPU and Jags tied on points going into the final game of the season, 2 place and automatic promotion was in sight but depended on a few factors. If Jags lost or drew SPU had to win, if Jags won SPU would have to win by 18 goals with Jags superior goal difference. With all that aside SPU were pumped for the final game and to get some retribution against Warnbro. SPU took the lead through Ash with his 22nd goal of the season, shortly after it was Oli Lazare who made it 2 – 0 with a nice one-two with Ash. Warnbro had a flurry of chances but a magnificent save from Roger and clearance from Smeltzy stopped them from scoring. Ash made it 3 – 0 when Alves’ long pass found him onside and one on one with the keeper.
HT 3-0

Second half started and SPU were out to prove a point Oli one goal away from a Carton scored his second to make 4 -0 and then minutes later sealed his hat trick with his 21st goal of the season. Guess what? Another red card was produced to a Warnbro player and the game was done. Scotty with a nice Defoe like goal and Robbo with a nice half volley finished of the rout. Smeltzy tried to get on the score sheet with a George Best like run from left back beating 3 players and getting taken out by the fourth.
Final Score 7 – 0

Jags lose to Perth Royals 2-1 means SPU D5 finish 2nd and get automatic promotion!!!!
