On a magical night in Stirling, South Perth D1 ressies turned in an outstanding performance abundant with poise, determination and no little skill. They faced a young and hungry Quinns team that started brightly. Gerry coped well with a lightning fast youngling on the Quinns right wing that gave him some challenges in the early stages. But Quinns were stunned with Gerry ventured forward and whipped in a cross that a defender sliced in to his own net after 20 minutes. South Perth were in the accendency and came close to increasing their lead on a couple of occasions.
But a clumsy foul by Boxy in first half injury time presented Quinns with a free kick in a dangerous position. After a couple of deflections the ball was belted home for a 1-1 scoreline and Quinns buzzing. But South Perth weren't finished, a cross in to the box was headed clear ... but only to the dangerous Daniella Nocciolino, who belted it home with his left foot for a 2-1 advantage at the half.
Quinns pilled on the pressure early in the second half and Steve Webster was at his exceptional best in goal to deny some good chances for Quinns. Craig Breen and Casey were superb at the back and headed away the repeated long balls from Quinns. South's had a couple of chances as the game progressed and only some last ditch defending from Quinns prevented a third. Experience saw South's through to the semis for the second year running. Well done lads!
Stay tuned for the semi final draw on Friday 13th August.
