Match Review - South Perth Div 5 V Canning City

Reserve Game

It was an unusually hot autumn day, and the ressies were looking for two wins in two games. After a few early exchanges it was canning who took the lead. But south perth rallied back some great work from baker and Scotty freed up mitch but his shot was well wide of the goal. South Perth got their equalizer when baker played a through ball up for mitch who got to the byline and and put the ball across the goal where div 5 debutant codi tapped in from close range. Before the half south Perth went 2-1 up mitch was played through again, this time he lifted the ball over the on rushing keeper. The second half started in similar fashion and a mix up in the canning defence let Wes through one on one with the keeper, but he fluffed his lines and his shot went wide. That was last clear cut chance south Perth had. Canning got an equalizer and South Perths legs where fading quick and a few defensive errors saw canning get another three goals.

Final Score South Perth 2 - Canning City 5

Highlights: Some cracking Saves from JJ, great performance by Josh Baker
First Team
The first team got back to winning ways but took the long road getting there. The game was pretty much back and forth until canning got a free kick in the ball in then caught out the defence's offside trap and a free header in the box saw souths go a goal down. Ten minutes later Leo Peter fouled his man in the box and a penalty was awarded to Canning. A sense of defeat crept in as the canning forward converted from the spot. However Canning celebrations where cut short as the referee order a re-take. The Canning forward stepped up and hit the ball high onto the crossbar and out. Game on!!

Oli and Stu battled well in the midfield as did Nathan in an unfamilar role behind the striker. It was their good work that set > romain through who got hacked down! penalty shouts came from the fans and players but it a free kick an inch outside the box. Nathan stepped up and from the left of the goal curled the ball around the wall (looked more like a garden fence) inside the far post. Canning threw everything at the Souths but great work from Wongy and debutant Chris Platt kept them. A moment of slackless allowed canning to put a few passes together and a long range pot shot managed to squeeze passed an outstretched Codi.

On the back foot again Souths rallied together some flamboyant skill from Stu and D-Lo provided some entertainment for the supporters, they really made some noise when an injured romain got past his man to equalize. It stayed like that till half time. The second half was played in similar fashion to the first half both sides squandered opportunities and some great saves from Codi kept souths in the game. About 20 mins to go south Perth got a through deep in the Canning half. Leo launched the ball into the 6 yard box. Canning failed to clear properly and great determination from D-Lo allowed him to win the ball and pass to Brendan whose left foot cross come shot looked to be going over the bar but then dipped in under the keepers far post.
Souths held on to secure a vital win.
