2010 season UPDATE !!!

Hi gang,

The 2010 season will soon be upon us so I thought it timely to update everyone on the club's preparation for the coming season.

Division 1 squad

  • Neil Delaney has been appointed as Div. 1 first team coach for the 2010 season and will be in charge of that team only.
  • Marco will run the Div. 1 reserves again, supported by Daniel Nocci.
  • Tom Griffiths will take training for all the Div. 1 squad (Firsts and reserves) on a regular basis to support Neil and Marco.
  • 5 pre-season games have been arranged from 28 February - 28 March (inclusive). There is possibly a 6th game to be played midweek against TC's State u21s (combined D1 league and reserves team for this one match)

Division 5 squad

  • Leo Peter has had a re-think and has offered to Coach the Division 5 squad for the season, which is great news.
  • 5 pre-season games have been arranged from 28 February - 28 March (inclusive). There is possibly a 6th game to be played midweek against the South Perth social team (combined D5 league and reserves team for this one match).

Fitness trainer

  • The club has organised for John, a fitness trainer to come down for 4 consecutive Thursday nights for one hour, starting on Thursday 4th February. Assuming there will be a total of about 40+ players at training, John will take groups of around 20-25 players for 25-30 minutes fitness training, mainly focusing on short-circuits and core strength work. It's not as bad as it sounds!
  • This is for both Div. 1 & Div. 5 players and possibly the social team.

Warm-up on training nights

  • We'd like to have all players from all squads warm up and cool down as one large group. This should encourage more interaction between players across squads and create an even friendlier atmosphere at the club.
  • Mike Jennings is happy to lead this most nights, with Gary W. - so speak to those guys if you'd like to be help out with that.
  • Typically on a training night, we'd all warm up together for 15 minutes then break off in to Div. 1s with Neil D. and the Div. 5s/ Socials with Gary and Banksy. Then probably back together at the end for a cool down, then hit the bar.

Masters

  • Hopefully the Masters will be training on the same nights as us, now that there is sufficient lighting on the far area.

Registrations

  • Fees for this season will probably be $270 - $275. Both the FootballWest and Council component increased from last year.
  • Tom Griffiths is in charge of registering all players again this year and he'll hand out registration forms. Tom cannot register any players without full payment in advance. The club has be burnt too many times in the past with players breaking promises and not paying after being registered which is not fair on the rest of us. So, please don't ask Tom to register you without payment.
  • FootballWest have reintroduced player ID cards for 2010, so Tom will take a passport photo of players as he registers them.
  • Deadline to be registered for the first game is Thursday 11th March 2010.

Pre-season training

  • The coaches will start taking pre-season training from Tuesday 2nd February from 7pm. The first fitness session with the personal trainer is the Thursday of that week.

Great - sounds exciting. Neil Delaney will make a great first team coach. Hats off to Tom for organising the registrations and Gary for helping to train the Div. 5 squad.
